About Peer Respit:
Peer Respite is a voluntary, 7-day, 24/7 model that provides support to people who feel overwhelmed by crisis or emotional distress.
Peer Respite is a proven alternative to psychiatric hospitalization or crisis residential services in that it offers community-based, non-clinical, and voluntary support in a home-like environment with trained peer supporters as staff. The hope and reality behind peer respites is that psychiatric emergency services can be avoided if less coercive or intrusive supports are available in the community. Respites allow individuals to heal and grow on their own terms and all the space for relationships to form to enhance wellbeing and healing. This transformative model views emotional distress as a common human experience through which guests can find meaning and growth as part of a healing community.
