The Boyertown Alumni Marching Unit is proud to present its Spirit of America Concert in the historic SunnyBrook Ballroom. To celebrate the July 4th weekend, the concert band will perform popular patriotic marches, along with songs that honor SunnyBrook’s history of big band performances and a variety of others that reflect the American spirit.
Selections will include: Glenn Miller in Concert; Parade of the Tall Ships, written for the Bicentennial event held in New York Harbor in 1976 ; and On the Fields of Glory, celebrating Americans’ passion for sports.
The Unit’s flashy Band Front of twirlers, rifles and flags will join the band in marches such as Americans We, St. Louis Blues March, and Stars and Stripes Forever.
The Boyertown Alumni Marching Unit was organized in 1976 to march in local Bicentennial parades, . Now, nearly 50 years later, the Spirit of America is still alive in the Unit, which has not only continued to perform in concerts and parades in the area, but has also entertained audiences in eight states and the District of Columbia.
These road trips included concerts at the steps of the Jefferson Memorial in Washington, D.C. and outside Faneuil Hall in Boston. And marching in the National Independence Day Parade in D.C., the oldest July 4th parade in Bristol, RI, and the annual ‘first’ July 4th parade in the country in Gatlinburg, TN, that begins at 12:01 a.m.
The Unit’s most recent trip was to the Community Band Festival in Lake George, NY, after which festival chairperson Corinne T. called the performance “unbelievable” and long-time festival attendee Harold W. wrote, “The performance was nothing short of OUTSTANDING! My one wish is that you will put the Lake George Festival on your schedule for next year.”
The Boyertown Alumni Marching Unit is an all-volunteer organization composed of graduates of Boyertown Area High School and other adults who now live in the Boyertown School District.
